epiaix
A Fedora Core 4 based live CD with a multimedia bias
Getting personal
Parlez-vous XML? To put your own packages into a FC4 distribution you need to modify the /media/FC4/Fedora/base/comps.xml file. First make a backup of the original file (just in case...). Then open the file in your favorite editor. Yes it is big! I started by removing all the languages I don't need. Then I got rid of some packages and replaced with others. Then I tested to see if the iso would build. Then I started over...
I have included livna and dries repositories in my yum.conf and installed xine, xmms (with mp3 support), vdr and others. To date I have written a CD booted into X.org, ran xine and watched a little live BBC! Watched a couple of DVDs (with libdvdcss so this may be illegal where you live...). And all this with VIA Epia M mpeg2 hardware acceleration, so we are on the right road to success.
This is where I am right now. I am also modifying the kernel RPM and about to modify the graphics. My LiveCD will no longer be a Fedora Core but an epiaix, so in order to respect trademarks and all that, I am removing references to FC4. I think this is going to take some time...
Much more coming soon!
